Easy Floral Hair Comb DIY

This is one of the easiest DIY projects that I've done lately. I love floral things, and of course, hair is sort of my forte... so this was an extra fun one for me! These floral hair combs are a great alternative to the full flower crown. They're perfect for pretty much any occasion, too! You can use almost any size flowers you want. I chose some on the medium side for these combs.

What you will need:

Small/medium artificial flowers

Plain hair combs 

Scissors

Hot glue

1. Start by cutting the stem as close as you can to the flower.

2. Apply hot glue to the bottom of the flower, and stick it to the bar on the comb. 

3. Place a strip of glue from the flower, over the bar, and back to the flower to ensure that it stays on. (I applied the glue quite liberally, but made sure that I didn't get too much on the teeth of the comb.)

4. Repeat those steps until you fill the bar on the comb. That's it! Now run it through your hair and secure it in place. 

 Try not to be too offended by my ridiculously grown out roots. Pregnancy, y'all.

I've downloaded all of these (and a few more) apps, and they're all really great. I like reading about the weekly growth progression of my little critter and what changes to expect with my body. These apps are loaded with information and tips to having a healthy pregnancy. Also, some of them help you track feedings and diaper changes when baby arrives! That will definitely be helpful to me because I'm extremely forgetful and will have a hard time keeping up with some of that.

So far, I've had pretty awful morning sickness...all day...every day. It has just become a chore to eat. Even if I have a craving for something, by the time I eat half of it, I get sick. Bleh. It's no fun, but I'm praying it won't last much longer. I say all of that to say this... Right now, I eat what I can when I can, and it's not always healthy. However, once the sickness passes and I don't hate everything, I fully plan on sticking to a healthier diet. Today, I ran across this blog post while perusing Pinterest, and it has some great advice on having a healthy diet before and during pregnancy!

Style Your Candles

I still have tons of votive candles left over from my wedding that was almost two years ago. They've just been sitting in a big box, collecting dust, in the laundry room this whole time. So, the other day, I decided to take some of them out and actually use them! However, unless you have twenty or thirty of them lit and scattered around in a dimly lit room, they look kind of bland. This sparked a little idea... Washi tape, of course! As I'm sure most of you know, it's such a perfect and inexpensive way to stylize pretty much anything! 

For this little project, I used washi tape sheets and just cut them to size before wrapping them around the candles. The decorating possibilities are endless!

DIY Mother's Day Gift

This year, Mother's Day kind of sneaked up on me. I thought it was next Sunday, but just found out it's THIS Sunday! Sadly, I'll be out of town this weekend, so I won't be able to celebrate with my mom... but luckily, I already had this diy candle made for her! This scented soy candle is a sweet and simple way to show appreciation for the dear mom in your life. 

What you'll need: 

2-3 cups of soy wax

Candle wicks

Tape

Mason jar

Scented oil of your choice

1.) Pour wax crumbles in a bowl and microwave for 1 minute, then stir. Repeat until the wax is completely melted.

2.) Add scented oil to the melted wax and stir. I added about 10 drops of each scent.

3.) Pour the wax into the jar. Then poke a hole through a piece of tape, stick a wick through it, and tape it to the top of the jar so the wick can be held upright until the candle has solidified.

4.) Let it sit for a couple hours until it's completely solid.

That's all there is too it! Get creative with it... mix some of your mom's favorite scents to make the perfect candle just for her!

Along with this lovely candle, I got an awesome card from Treat.! Rather than just picking one out at the store, I got to fully customize this one! They have tons of designs and customization options. It's much more personal than grabbing one at Walgreen's or wherever, in my opinion. ;)

DIY Leather Chevron Necklace

I found this neat and very simple necklace diy project on another blog (here) and just had to try it and of course, share it! So I made this one as a Christmas gift for my sister-in-law. 

What you need:

Scissors

Necklace chain ( I used 18")

Pen

Leather Scrap

Chevron pattern shape

Pin or nail

Metal necklace rings

I chose to use the thickest leather scrap I could find so it would be sturdy and keep its shape. 

1.) Trace and cut out 3 chevron shapes.

2.) Poke holes on the corners of each shape, except the bottom one.. only poke holes on the top corners of that shape. I had to hammer a nail through my leather because it was so thick.

3.) Join the chevron shapes together with the metal necklace rings and attach the chain to the top rings.

It should look like the picture below. And that's all there is to it! Make it your own and try it using other leather colors and chain sizes!

DIY Cute Striped Vases

When I made these vases, I knew I should've used spray paint instead of acrylic paint, 

but I decided to go ahead and give acrylic a try anyway.... Mostly because it was 90+ 

degrees outside and I didn't want to sit out there and paint these things. So... My advice

is to use spray paint because it will be faster and it won't try to peel when you pull off the

tape like the acrylic tried to do. I used a razor to straighten up the edges though, so it was fine.

Trial and error, y'all.

What you'll need:

Sealant (matte or gloss)

Spray paint (or acrylic if it's a thousand degrees outside)

Painters tape

Cylinder vases

100th Post: Sunday Style

You can't really act serious or sassy in a unicorn shirt... So I got a little creative with my

poses! I also had to show my excitement for my 100th post! I've had this blog for almost

two years now. I've definitely learned a lot about blogging and I have made tons of friends 

since then. It's been so much fun and I can't wait to share even more of my favorite things

 and the fun moments in my life on this little blog. Here's to 100 more posts!!
