Unicorn Hair

It's been almost a full year since I've had vibrant hair. I got sick of the maintenance last year and decided to color it back to a natural hue. In general, the maintenance wasn't that bad. I was just too tired and pregnant to keep it up. However, I started reeeally missing it a few months ago and finally talked myself into bringing it back. Oh, loveliest unicorn hair, how I have missed you so!

Last time I joined the bright side, I posted about some ways to increase the longevity of vibrant locks. So if you're trying to get a taste of the rainbow, check out that post here for tips and tricks.

Link Love

After putting my sweet Brooks to bed tonight, I finally had some time to do a little blog surfing. It's one of my favorite down-time hobbies. Unfortunately, it's something I don't get to do as often as I used to. So when I do, I just have to share some of my favorite findings. Enjoy!

1. How cool are these DIY neon triangle photo frames?! Get the project instructions here.

2. I'm loving this week's Sister Style by A Beautiful Mess! Elsie's skirt is too cute.

3. Have you heard about the new makeup trend, "strobing"? Read about it here.

4. Keiko Lynn shares Urban Decay's Matte Revolution lip colors, and I think I love all of them!

5. I started salivating when I stumbled upon this cheesy chicken stuffed peppers recipe. I'll definitely be making this soon!

Brooks Wilder: Five Months

4th of july baby

Currently //

Length approximately 26 inches
Weight 16 pounds

Eats pureed fruits & veggies, breast milk, and formula.
Loves rolling over onto his stomach.
Hates not knowing how to roll back onto his back.
Learning to sit up, laugh, and make new sounds.

Brooks turned 5 months on the 2nd, but I decided to combine his monthly update with Independence Day since we did a little celebrating. Even though most of our 4th of July was completely rained out, we did manage to find a break in the weather to have a little fun.

I dressed B up in the most patriotic gear I could find... because why not go all out, right? I just couldn't pass up that adorable "Mommy's Little Fire Cracker" shirt! Too cute. Anyway, we took him to the park where our town has an annual music and fireworks festival type thing. We strolled around, got snow cones (my flavor of choice is always piƱa colada - yumm ), and let Brooks swing for a little bit. Also, if you follow me on Instagram, you can see me trying to chase baby ducklings. Those suckers are fast!

After leaving the park, we went to hang out with friends and grilled dinner. Since Brooks has an early bedtime, we missed out on fireworks this year. Maybe next year he'll be old enough to stay up just a little bit later.

MAC Lipstick Review

I got this beautiful MAC lip color the other day and I thought I'd share a little review about it. One thing I love about it is it reminds me a lot of a Lime Crime color I used to have, "Countessa Fluorescent". Not only is the shade almost identical, but the scent is too! It smells just like cupcakes! I don't know who copied who, but I'm not mad!

"Candy Yum-Yum"

Price - $16
Color - Neon pink with a blue undertone - which makes teeth look whiter!
Finish - Matte finish, glides on smoothly.
Lasting effect - Long wearing, about 4-6 hours for me.
Likes - Bold pigment, smells like cupcakes.
Dislikes - Drying.. I have to put chapstick over it.

Would I recommend it to a friend? Absolutely! The pros definitely outweigh the cons. I think I found my new favorite lipstick.

What's your favorite MAC lip color?

Swimming Snapshots

Since it's been so hot out, we decided it was time to get our little man accustomed to colder water - not bath water. So, we got him a pool. I wouldn't say he looooved it at first. He was okay with dipping his feet in, but definitely not his booty. After a few minutes though, he started to get used to it and splashed around a little bit.

It's been so much fun watch Brooks grow and become more aware of his surroundings. He's starting to "talk" and interact with us a lot more, and his personality is really starting to show. For the most part, he's a chill baby, but he won't hesitate to let you know when he does and doesn't like something!

5 Haircolor Trends for Summer

I've had several clients coming in wanting a fresh, new color for summer but aren't quite sure what exactly to get. Who better to turn to for hair color guidance than their hairstylist, right? Of course! So I thought I'd share some of the colors and techniques I've been suggesting lately...

1. Balayage Highlights - This technique has been around for a long time but it's really popular right now. These highlights are free-hand painted on the hair. There's no "line of demarcation" as it grows out, so it's very low maintenance.

2. Unicorn Hair - From vibrant to pastel, who doesn't love fun fashion colors?! I am completely in love with this aqua blue color.

Sombre haircolor

3. Sombre - Like ombre, but on the subtle side. This is a soft, low-key way to lighten your hair. It works with pretty much any shade too!

4. Babylights - These are delicately painted on smaller pieces of hair and made to resemble the natural, sun-kissed highlights in a child's hair.

Pantone 2015 color of the year Marsala
Via Bella Vita Guiseppe
5. Marsala - Pantone's 2015 color of the year is marsala which is such a pretty color for hair too!

Which is your favorite?

Brooks Wilder: Four Months

baby 4 months development

Currently //

Length 25.75 inches
Weight 14 pounds

Sleeps through the night (sometimes).
Loves bath time and grabbing his feet.
Hates touching cold water and sitting still.
Learning to eat cereal and pureed foods.

cute baby stuff
baby milestones at 4 months
baby portrait ideas
Brooks has hit so many milestones this past month! He rolls over from his belly to his back. He's smiling a lot more, and has even started laughing a little bit! It's so cute, I can't stand it. Can't. Stand. It. Baby giggles are the best.

Little B got his second round of shots this morning. He took it much better than he did last time. We both did. He only cried for a few minutes and then he was done! I didn't cry at all. Yay! The doctor gave him a clean bill of health and said that he is growing and developing normally. He also said that B is now ready to start eating some cereal and pureed foods.

So this afternoon, we went to the store and got some jars of baby food with little bowls and spoons. We first had him try carrots and he wasn't too thrilled about it. Unfortunately for him, he gets to try it again for the next couple of days before we introduce him to another food. Maybe he'll learn to love it. Once I figure out what he likes (and isn't allergic to), I can start making my own baby food!
